Signs you have fleas
The main signs of fleas are itchy bites around the ankles and lower legs, pets scratching more than usual, and tiny dark insects jumping from carpets or furniture.
- Small, itchy red bites, usually around ankles and lower legs.
- Pets scratching, licking or biting their fur, especially around the neck and tail.
- Tiny dark brown insects (2–3 mm) that jump when disturbed.
- 'Flea dirt': black specks in pet bedding that turn red on damp tissue.
- Fleas visible on white socks after walking across the carpet.

Fleas cause itchy bites and rashes in people and pets and can multiply into thousands in a few weeks.
- Fleas need a blood meal to lay eggs, and a single female can lay up to 50 eggs a day.
- Bites and rashes can become infected when scratched, and some people are allergic.
- Fleas can be a problem even without pets, for example after moving into a property where animals lived.
- Cat and dog fleas are the most common in UK homes, and they will bite people.
- Pets can suffer anaemia, skin allergies and tapeworm, so a flea-free home helps them too.
Why do fleas come back 2–3 weeks after treatment?
Flea pupae are protected by a cocoon that treatments cannot penetrate, so new fleas can hatch for 2–3 weeks afterwards; this is normal and they will die when they contact the treated surfaces.
Keep vacuuming daily during this period: the vibration encourages pupae to hatch so they contact the treatment sooner. If you are still seeing fleas after three weeks, call us and we will return.
Should I treat my pets at the same time?
Yes. Treat every cat and dog in the home with a vet-recommended flea product on the same day as the property treatment, otherwise the pets will keep bringing fleas back.
Speak to your vet about the right product. Never use a dog flea product on a cat.

How to prepare for fleas treatment
Good preparation makes treatment work faster. Print this checklist and tick off each step before we arrive.
- Vacuum every floor, rug, sofa and under furniture thoroughly; empty the vacuum into a sealed bag outside.
- Wash pet bedding, throws and cushion covers on a hot wash (60°C).
- Clear items off the floor so every carpeted area can be treated.
- Treat all pets with a vet-recommended product on the same day.
- Cover or remove fish tanks and turn off pumps; remove small caged animals.
- Do not vacuum or wash floors for 14 days after treatment, apart from the daily light vacuum we recommend.
How long does fleas treatment take?
Treating a typical home takes about an hour. One treatment is usually enough when pets are treated at the same time; a second visit is sometimes needed for heavy infestations.
How much does flea treatment cost in London?
The price of flea treatment depends on:
- Number of rooms or floors
- Size of the property
- Severity of the infestation
- Whether a follow-up visit is needed
We use the most effective professional products, which can cost a little more, but we believe you'll be happy with the quote. See our pricing guide or call 020 7101 4957.

Flea Treatment FAQs
Can I get fleas without having pets?
Yes. Fleas can survive as pupae for months in an empty property and hatch when new occupants move in. They can also be brought in by wildlife or visitors' pets.
How long after flea treatment can pets come back in?
Once all surfaces are completely dry, usually after 2–4 hours. We will confirm timings on the day.
Why am I still seeing fleas after treatment?
Pupae can hatch for up to 2–3 weeks. Keep vacuuming daily; the new fleas will die on contact with the treated surfaces.
Do I need to treat my pets as well?
Yes, on the same day, with a product recommended by your vet. Otherwise pets will reintroduce fleas.
How much does flea treatment cost?
It depends on the size of the property and the infestation. Call 020 7101 4957 for a quote, or see our pricing guide.
Can fleas live in beds?
They can, especially if pets sleep on the bed. Wash bedding on a hot wash and we will include the bedroom in the treatment.
