Wasp nest removal: when to call a professional
Last updated: 12 October 2026 · Reviewed by: M. Hanifi, RSPH Level 2 qualified technician
Call a professional if a wasp nest is in or on your home, near a door or window, hard to reach, or if anyone in the household is allergic to stings. Never block the entrance or knock the nest down, as wasps can be forced indoors. A professional treatment usually takes under an hour.
Can I leave a wasp nest alone?
If the nest is far from people, small and in a place you don't use, it will die off naturally in autumn and won't be reused.
When should I call a professional?
Call if the nest is close to where people or pets go, or someone has an allergy.
- In a loft, wall or roof of the home
- Near doors, windows or play areas
- Growing large in late summer
- Anyone in the house allergic to stings
- A business with customers nearby
